‘Give him some game time’ – These West Ham fans react to new deal for teenager
West Ham United have one of the finest academies in British football, and are very proud of it. Young talents are constantly emerging from east London.
The likes of Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Jermain Defoe, Mark Noble and Declan Rice have come from the Hammers’ youth set-up.
If you can make your breakthrough at the London Stadium – or Upton Park in the good old days – then it’s probably an indication that you’re a pretty decent player.
Young Irons striker Amadou Diallo will be hoping to follow in the grand tradition of Cole, Ferdinand etc.
The 17-year-old signed his first professional contract with David Moyes’ side on Saturday, as confirmed by the club’s official Twitter account.
Diallo is a prodigiously talented footballer who played for the club’s Under-18s side at 14 years of age and the Under-23s at 15.
He has managed two goals in eight games for the Hammers’ second string this campaign, with this contract just rewards for his efforts.
The club’s supporters have reacted to his new deal with a mixture of goodwill and mickey-taking at the state of the first team.
