Gianluca Scamacca likely to debut for West Ham against Lens

West Ham United’s newly-signed striker Gianluca Scamacca is likely to make his debut in the friendly against RC Lens, according to Claret and Hugh.

The Italy international has recently joined the club in a deal worth £30.5 million from Serie A side Sassuolo earlier in the summer [BBC].

As per the latest report, the 23-year-old is already in the squad for the Hammers’ last pre-season friendly which is to be played on Saturday.

West Ham

New chapter

The new season of the Premier League is set to begin in a week’s time and the West Ham fans will be hoping that this year, they will even supersede whatever they’ve achieved in the previous campaign.

Adding someone like Scamacca seems to be a perfect move because he is an acrobatic striker, known for making incredible off-the-ball runs and chasing down the defenders.

He normally likes to press from the front, giving the opponent defenders no time on the ball. He is also a nightmare to mark. In the 2021-22 season with Sassuolo, he scored 16 goals in the Serie A [Transfermarkt].

Those numbers are just too good to ignore and it is because of this reason the Hammers went out and spent a huge sum in signing the player.

West Ham fans will be hoping that Scamacca will be able to replicate his Sassuolo’s heroics at the London Stadium, week in, week out to ease the goalscoring burden from the likes of Michael Antonio and Jarrod Bowen.
