Gazzetta dello Sport makes ‘fake news’ suggestion over West Ham United next manager development

Julen Lopetegui wants a move to AC Milan and stories in the media about West Ham United may be fake news, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Italian outlet (25 April, page 6) has said that the Spaniard is the favourite choice for the Serie A outfit this summer.

The former Real Madrid manager has been linked to the Hammers alongside Ruben Amorim and Paulo Fonseca in the past week.

Alessandra Gozzini reported for Gazetta that the reports about Lopetegui may not be true and used as a bargaining tool.

He said: “Julen Lopetegui is waiting for Milan and in the meantime the English media are relaunching the news of an offer from West Ham and of an imminent trip to England by the former Spain coach. Fake news or an attempt to hurry the Rossoneri?”

Should West Ham United appoint Julen Lopetegui?

There has been no shortage of managers linked to the Hammers this season as David Moyes’ contract runs down at the London Stadium.

The West Ham fans have been after a manager who strives to play exciting football which can excite the masses and secure results.

Although Amorim and Fonseca could bring this, there are some reservations about Lopetegui and his preferred style of play.

He can favour a mid-block as he looks to shut out the opposition and catch them where possible going forward.

In his time with Sevilla, he had attacking full-backs who were supplemented by wingers who weren’t afraid to track back. Jesus Navas and Marcos Acuna were able to flourish in his system.

With that being said, is he enough of a change from Moyes?

Fans can appreciate the work of the Scotsman in his time with the Hammers which has seen him win a Europa Conference League title.

He has helped transform West Ham from a relegation-threatened outfit to a consistent European Premier League place finisher.

Although Lopetegui has a good pedigree, he isn’t the point of difference that fans are looking for.

In other West Ham news, a decision has been made already on another manager linked to the job.
