Gary O’Neil tipped to ‘think about’ West Ham United switch amid David Moyes exit speculation
Wolves manager manager Gary O’Neil would “have to think about” joining West Ham United if he was approached in the summer, according to Tony Cascarino.
David Moyes’ contract at the London Stadium expires at the end of the season and despite the Scotsman’s desire to stay in East London, no agreement has yet been reached over an extension to his deal.
O’Neil’s name has been floated by several pundits and supporters as a potential successor and talkSPORT pundit Cascarino believes the Wolves boss would consider a move if he isn’t backed in the transfer market this summer.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Sunday (21 April, 6:55) he said: “It’s possible. It’s a weird one. Pressure mounts on a manager because when you start losing games, some managers get a lot of stick.
“If Gary O’Neil feels like I’ve got a better opportunity elsewhere and I’ve got a far better opportunity of being successful as a manager because I’ve got the funds that will allow me to do a lot more at the football club, of course, he would have to think about it.”
Will West Ham United sack David Moyes and appoint Wolves manager Gary O’Neil?
Moyes’ future has been the subject of conversation for much of the season at the London Stadium, with supporters completely divided over whether the Hammers should extend the Scotsman’s contract.
As the end of the campaign draws closer it does seem increasingly likely there will be a change in the dugout and while it remains unclear who Tim Steidten will be targeting, O’Neil will surely have to be under consideration.

The former Hammers midfielder has done an exceptional job with limited resources both at Molineux and during his time at Bournemouth. He may not have the longest CV, but his teams have always performed above their means.
He may not have the same star power as some names supporters have been pining for, but he has been consistent throughout his career which cannot be sniffed at.
The current financial circumstances at Molineux may well leave the door open for West Ham to swoop in and secure his services.
