Gary Neville stunned by what David Sullivan did to David Moyes before West Ham United exit

Gary Neville was in disbelief after hearing that David Sullivan withdrew David Moyes’ contract extension at West Ham last season.

The 61-year-old has revealed that, after a new deal was tabled for the Scot in his final season at the London Stadium, Sullivan chose to withdraw the offer after a run of poor results in the Premier League.

Moyes was facing a lot of pressure from Hammers fans, mainly due to his defensive style of play in East London, but he has now lifted the lid on his summer exit.

Reacting to Moyes’ bombshell via the Stick to Football podcast [7 November], Neville said: “I don’t think you can do that. I feel uncomfortable. If you offer someone a contract to someone, it’s a bond, isn’t it?”

Moyes has always kept a positive mindset when talking about the Hammers, but that must be extremely difficult for him after keeping his information about Sullivan close to his chest.

While many fans had voiced their opinions about Moyes leaving at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, unhappy with the team’s performances and run of results, that was not the main issue.

The biggest concern was the uncertainty surrounding the Scot’s future, with much of the blame being aimed at the manager for not deciding, but now it turns out that Sullivan is to blame.

Taking away the new contract deal is just a cowardly move from the current owner. If Sullivan believed Moyes deserved to extend his stay in East London, he should have stuck to his guns.

Now, the Hammers fans are just as unhappy after he decided to bring Julen Lopetegui to the club as a replacement, who has struggled to gain any sort of form in the Premier League.

In other West Ham news, the club’s season prospects have been labelled a “write-off” after new developments at the London Stadium.
