Gary Neville predicts result of West Ham United showdown v Manchester United
West Ham United will pick up their first point after the international break when they face Manchester United on Sunday (27 October), according to Gary Neville.
The Sky Sports pundit expects Julen Lopetegui’s side to bounce back from their disappointing 4-1 loss at Tottenham last time out, predicting the two sides will share the points in a 2-2 draw at the London Stadium.
Although Julen Lopetegui is already under early pressure from supporters and pundits alike, Neville expects the Hammers boss to stop the potential rot against the Red Devils.
Speaking on Stick to Football (24 October, 1:05:50) he said: “West Ham against Man United, Sholesy I’m unsure.
“1-1? 2-2.”
When do West Ham and Manchester United play at the London Stadium?
West Ham and Lopetegui really need a win against United. Although the manager is expected to be given time to turn things around in East London, he needs to show that he has what it takes to get this season back on track.
Against the traditional ‘big six’ this season, the Hammers have struggled to make their mark. All of Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea have played the Irons off of the park while Aston Villa also looked fairly comfortable for their win at the London Stadium.
If Lopetegui’s side are pulled apart in the same manner by a Manchester United side that has been in miserable form so far this term, questions will be asked about the West Ham boss and his ability to tactically set up a side.
A draw would be by no means a bad result. The majority of Hammers supporters would quite gladly run away with just a point if it meant they avoided starting another winless run at home this season.
Hopefully, Neville hasn’t given the Irons too much credit and they will manage to keep the Red Devils at bay over the course of the 90 minutes. A tie wouldn’t save Lopetegui’s job, but it would certainly be a step in the right direction.
