Gary Neville accused of West Ham United disrespect amid Tottenham v Man City drama
Gary Neville has been accused of disrespecting West Ham after saying Manchester City have wrapped up the Premier League title with a win at Tottenham.
After Erling Haaland scored a late penalty to double his and City’s tally to round off a 2-0 win in North London, Neville basically coronated Pep Guardiola’s side as Premier League champions.
However, there’s one game to go and Man City only have a two-point lead going into the final game of the season, which is against the Irons on Sunday (19 May) at the Etihad.
Mark Douglas of iNews pointed out that Neville’s comments basically steamrolled West Ham’s chances of getting any kind of result this weekend.
“I’m not saying it’s going to happen but the amount of disrespect shown to West Ham when Gary Neville said the penalty was to wrap up the title,” said Douglas via his personal X account on 14 May.
Who says West Ham can’t get something v Man City?
If Arsenal win against Everton on Sunday, nothing but a win will do for Man City because they only have a two-point lead and the Gunners have a better goal difference by one.
West Ham will have David Moyes in the dugout for one final time so who knows? The Scotsman could go out with a real bang by causing a major upset.
However, you wouldn’t rule out the Hammers beating Man City, only for Arsenal to go and mess it up by losing to Sean Dyche’s Everton at the Emirates.
Moyes’ men do deserve more respect than this.
Sure, a lot of West Ham fans would probably take a defeat to stop their London rivals from winning the league but to write a team off completely comes across as elitist.
Neville only cares about the so-called big six. He doesn’t have time for the likes of West Ham, even though they’re one of the biggest teams in the country.
Show some respect, please, Neville.
