Gary Lineker sends three-word Twitter message to West Ham first teamer

Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to congratulate West Ham defender Pablo Zabaleta on his 300th Premier League appearance.

The Argentine reached the milestone in the Hammers’ 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United a week and a half ago, and was rewarded with a special commemorative medal from the league themselves.

The veteran full-back then took to Twitter with a post saying: “It was a pleasure to receive my award from the Premier League and Cadbury UK to mark my 300th appearance.

“So many great memories over the past 12 years and it’s been an honour to represent two fantastic clubs, Man City and West Ham.

“Thank you!”

Match of the Day host Linker then shared that post alongside the caption: “Enhorabuena.

“Muy merecido.”

Translated from Spanish, that means: “Congratulations. Much deserved.”

Full credit to Zabaleta, he has arguably been the greatest right-back the Premier League has had over the past decade.

Sure, his best days were definitely at Manchester City, when he won two titles, but that shouldn’t detract from the fact that he has been a fantastic servant to West Ham too.

In truth, the 35-year-old is very probably approaching the end of his career in the top flight, and performances like his horror show against Newcastle United back in November, as he failed to make a single challenge against a rampant Allan Saint-Maximin, as per Whoscored, are uncomfortable reminders of that.

But his performances since David Moyes came back to the club, averaging a Whoscored rating of 7.04, also serve to illustrate that, played in the right system, he can still be a real asset.
