Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer in agreement what’ll happen at West Ham United after Chelsea loss
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer agree West Ham United will only improve this season after the 3-0 loss to Chelsea.
The Hammers have lost three out of their opening five Premier League matches under Julen Lopetegui as the pressure builds after a poor start to life in East London.
Lineker and Shearer discussed the performance against Chelsea on The Rest is Football [23 September, 24:29] and believe better times are ahead at the London Stadium.
Lineker said: “I think better things will come from West Ham.”
Co-host Shearer replied: “I agree.”
West Ham United must show more fight
The Irons have faced tough opposition at the start of the season, but three consecutive losses at the London Stadium under Lopetegui is terrible no matter how the situation is spun.
West Ham never looked like the home side in the defeats to Aston Villa, Manchester City and Chelsea, and now lies serious cause for concern as to whether the Spaniard was the right appointment to usher in the new era in East London.
David Moyes delivered semi-regular European football despite his flaws and delivered the first European trophy in the club’s history with the Europa Conference League.
The fact that the supporters still felt the need to move on from their former boss tells you everything about the monumental task ahead for Lopetegui.

The summer arrivals, the ones who have played, are hardly justifying their big-money fees, and the ones that Lopetegui inherited have massively underperformed.
With a tough trip to Liverpool midweek in the Carabao Cup, it will not get any easier for the Spaniard. If the Reds rotate for the clash as expected [Ian Doyle] and the Hammers are knocked out of the cup, there will be very few within the club hierarchy able to argue his case.
It is still very early days into his West Ham tenure but the early signs are far from promising. Lopetegui needs to start getting results before the situation spirals out of control in East London.
