Garth Crooks names ‘legendary’ Jarrod Bown in BBC Team of the Week after West Ham United draw v Bournemouth

Garth Crooks has named West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen in his BBC Team of the Week following his goal against Bournemouth.

The attacker scored his club’s only goal in their Premier League opening day 1-1 draw with the Cherries on Saturday (12 August).

His super strike follows his goal in the Europa Conference League final last season, which Crooks claims may grant the player “legendary status” at West Ham.

“Well he certainly started the season the way he finished it,” Crooks wrote for BBC Sport. “Jarrod Bowen’s goal against Fiorentina in last season’s Europa Conference League triumph in Prague may well provide the player with legendary status in east London.

“Meanwhile, his superbly taken goal in the 1-1 draw at Bournemouth only secured the Hammers a point when it should have been all three.

“The suggested arrival of Harry Maguire and the recent signing of James Ward-Prowse should make a difference, although I can’t understand why it is taking so long to get these players into the club. West Ham need to finalise both these issues very quickly.”

Super start for Bowen

Bowen was relatively quiet last season, at least for his standards, although he did pop up with some very important goals, namely the aforementioned Europa Conference League final strike.

And the former Hull City man was on hand to help his team out once again at the weekend with a very well-taken strike against Bournemouth.

The winger will be crucial for West Ham in all competitions this season as they look to challenge in the Premier League and in the Europa League.

The latter will, of course, be much more difficult than the Europa Conference League, with Bowen needing to be on top form if the Hammers want to achieve further success.

Things were looking good for the East London club against the Cherries right up until the final 10 minutes, with Dominic Solanke netting in the 82nd minute to rescue a point for the home side.

It wasn’t the perfect start for David Moyes and his side, but conversely it wasn’t the worst, with a tough test against Chelsea up next.

In other West Ham news, one player is set to remain at Rush Green until a decision is made regarding his future.
