Further midfield boost on the cards for West Ham amid Tomas Soucek update
Tomas Soucek is set to extend his stay with West Ham, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper reported online (14 August) that the 28-year-old midfielder is set to sign a contract extension that will keep him at the London Stadium, although it was not reported for how long.
Soucek might find minutes harder to come by this season following the arrivals of James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez, in addition to Lucas Paqueta still being on the books.

Although it appears as if this will not prevent the Czech Republic international from continuing his stay with the East London side.
Depth
While the midfielder’s performances were not up to the standards he had previously set at the club last season, it is still important for David Moyes’ side to maintain some depth in the central areas. Declan Rice has already left the club and if Lucas Paqueta follows him out the door, an exit for Soucek would not be helpful.
Ward-Prowse and Alvarez have both been brought into the club and will likely start over Soucek, but with Europa League football this season as well as plenty of domestic competitions, it is important to have options.

Players are likely to get injured and with games now longer thanks to the brand new additional time rule, Soucek will need to come in off the bench and do a job for the club from time to time.
Therefore, despite his declining form, the news that he is potentially set to stick around is certainly positive.
In other West Ham news, advancements have been made in the potential exit of another midfielder at the club.
