Fresh twist emerges in West Ham United talks for Ruben Amorim as Chelsea claim made
Ruben Amorim held talks with Chelsea when he flew to London on 22 April as well as West Ham United, according to Pedro Sepulveda.
Writing on his personal X account (30 April), the Portuguese journalist reports that the Blues paid for the private jet that flew him from Lisbon to London and that the coach had a meeting with members of the board.
Amorim spoke to West Ham owner David Sullivan on the same day about replacing David Moyes, but talks came to nothing and he is not expected to take over at the London Stadium this summer.
“The aeroplane that Ruben Amorim took on 22 April was paid by Chelsea. Meeting with members of the board,” he wrote.
“Pochettino will probably leave Chelsea at the end of the season. Deal with Liverpool collapsed.
“The news about West Ham paying [for] the flight are fake.”
Is Ruben Amorim using the West Ham name for hype?
In an interesting turn of events, it seems as though Amorim and his entourage may have been using the West Ham name for a bit of hype this month.
When news broke that the Hammers were keen to appoint the current Sporting CP boss, most viewed it as an ambitious wish of the owners that never really had a chance of coming off considering the interest from Liverpool.
Talk quickly died of any chance of the deal happening, and then the Liverpool move collapsed too with them moving for Arne Slot instead and now he seems short on options.
West Ham have clearly moved on from any thoughts of Amorim after the circus that surrounded him, with Julen Lopetegui and Paulo Fonseca the clear frontrunners to replace Moyes this summer.
So now Amorim has switched targets and is eyeing a different London job, knowing there is uncertainty there. It seems like a game by the manager and his representatives, so it’s probably a good thing Sulliva and the board have started looking elsewhere.
In other West Ham news, five current first-team players are expected to leave during the summer transfer window.
