Freddie Potts ‘set to be given full backing’ after latest West Ham United transfer news

Graham Potter is continuing to build a West Ham United team in his own image during the summer transfer window.

West Ham have signed Mads Hermansen, Kyle Walker-Peters, El Hadji Malick Diouf and Callum Wilson this summer, while Jean-Clair Todibo has joined permanently.

However, Edson Alvarez is one player who looks unlikely to be part of Potter’s new revolution.

Reports suggest that Alvarez has been put up for sale and several clubs across Europe are interested in signing him.

Alvarez has been struggling in a West Ham shirt ever since Potter was appointed, although his departure might leave the Hammers looking short in centre-midfield.

Alvarez sale could open door for Potts to claim regular starting place

The sale of Alvarez is likely to spell good news for Freddie Potts.

Potts is hoping to break into the West Ham team after a promising loan spell with Portsmouth last season.

The 21-year-old academy product is yet to make a Premier League appearance, but has performed well in this summer’s pre-season friendlies.

If Alvarez is sold, that could be seen as a sign of faith that Potts is ready to step up to the first team.

Potter should target attacking stars before transfer window closes

Potter has enjoyed a tidy transfer window so far. His new signings should help to strengthen the team heading into the new Premier League season.

It’s believed that he’s still targeting some young centre-midfielders from other teams. Leicester’s Bilal El Khannouss and Liverpool’s Tyler Morton are two players recently linked with a move to The London Stadium.

However, Potter might be well advised to focus on adding some more firepower to his West Ham squad instead.

After all,

Callum Wilson is the only new signing who can be considered an attacking threat, but his fitness record is a concern.

Potts is ready to prove his worth in centre-midfield. Most West Ham fans want to see him given a chance. So, if Potter still has money to spend, it should surely go on new attackers.
