Freddie Potts ‘has no excuses’ as West Ham ace slammed over ‘dreadful’ moment vs Wolves

West Ham are on course for their worst result of the season as they trail Wolves 3-0 at half-time.

John Arias opened the scoring in the fourth minute after West Ham left him unmarked in the middle of the box.

Hwang Hee-Chan then scored a penalty after Soungoutou Magassa fouled Mateus Mane, and the youngster then scored a brilliant low drive himself to make it 3-0 on the cusp of half-time.

Nuno Espirito Santo could be facing the sack if the Hammers failed to mount an unlikely comeback, and the majority of fans have already seen enough at Molineux Stadium.

Freddie Potts has been impressive for West Ham this season, but he was crucified for a dreadful free-kick by Sky Sports pundit Andy Walker.

With everyone up for a free-kick, Potts had the opportunity to fire in a cross to drag West Ham back into the match when the score was 1-0.

However, he made a mess of the situation, firing the ball over the bar and wasting a promising opportunity for the Hammers.

Speaking on the World Feed commentary during the match, a rather angry Walker couldn’t believe how poor the attempt was.

He said: “Honestly, there’s no excuse for that. There’s no excuse. The excuse you might give him is that he’s played it with some pace, but there’s no pace. It’s dreadful stuff.”

Wolves vs West Ham first-half stats

West Ham are embroiled in a relegation battle, and they find themselves 3-0 down to a side that hasn’t won all season.

They have been completely overrun by Wolves’ energetic midfield, and with Nottingham Forest losing to Aston Villa in the early kickoff, this could be a huge missed opportunity for Nuno’s side to pick up some much-needed points.

The game looks completely dead and buried, and the Hammers have an almighty mountain to climb if they want to get back into the match.

What can West Ham do in the second half to precent further embarrassment?

Despite dominating the majority of possession, Magassa’s speculative effort at the end of the half was their only effort on goal.

It’s clear West Ham’s defending has been a mess, but they need to go all out in attack if they want any chance of completing a memorable fightback.

New signing Pablo is on the bench, and Nuno may turn to him as West Ham search for at least three goals.

Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville have had no impact out wide, and the midfielders have been completely anonymous.

However, if Pablo is given a chance to make an impact, and the Hammers play more direct long balls, then this Wolves defence could become very easily unsettled.
