Frank McAvennie sick of West Ham United owners platitudes, demands transfer action
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
The West Ham owners have got to stop making claims about transfers and start letting actions do the talking says Frank McAvennie.
The Hammers have a thin squad but David Moyes has still taken them to a Europa League semi-final and has them in with a shout of qualifying again through their league position on the final day.
Despite the work the manager has done with these players, the January transfer window came and went with a lot of talk but no new arrivals, and ex-Irons striker McAvennie is impatient with the club’s owners.

Speaking exclusively for West Ham Zone he was clear they had to put their money where their mouth is: “Of course, they’re going to have to make up their minds. They’ve got to show the fans that they’re staying, and that way they’ll spend money.
“If they’re going to sell it next year they won’t spend any money. They’ll sell Declan [Rice]. That’s what they’ll do.
“If they spend money it means they intend to stay. You’ve got to put up.
“Every transfer window [they say], ‘We’re going to get this one, we’re going to get that one’.
“Fans are fed up of hearing it. So just say nothing and go and get them.”

Supposed record bids for Raphinha, Kalvin Phillips and Darwin Nunez went out in the winter window, but none of those players arrived, and don’t look like they will in the summer.
If David Sullivan and David Gold really are hanging around until they can sell and keep all the profits, but are keeping the club dangling without the necessary investment it is massively frustrating.
They risk throwing away a major opportunity at the crucial point, where Moyes has the players performing near maximum capacity and talisman Rice is still at the club, so this summer needs to see action.
In other West Ham news, an ex-Hammer has told Tottenham they need to take a key Irons man to keep their own stars happy.
