Frank McAvennie hails Benrahma improvement at West Ham
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie is delighted by the improvement of Said Benrahma after a supposed talk between him and West Ham manager David Moyes.
Benrahma, 25, arrived on loan at the London Stadium from Brentford last year but made his stay at the Hammers permanent in January.
The Algeria international has made 24 appearances in all competitions for the Irons, assisting five goals in the process.
In December, Moyes was quoted by the London Evening Standard as saying that he wants to see Benrahma retain possession better.
And after working on him, McAvennie believes the West Ham manager has been able to do that.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “Benrahma is now doing a lot better because David Moyes has obviously spoken to him and said he’s giving the ball away too cheaply,”
“He’s not doing that now. He’s still got the work rate, he’s still doing the playmaker bits but he’s not losing the ball as much as he used to.”
Benrahma has started to drop in and out of the West Ham starting line-up in recent weeks.
Before the 3-0 win over Sheffield United on February 15, Benrahma had started seven matches in a row in the Premier League.
However since then, the ex-Brentford attacker has started just two of six Premier League fixtures.
Jesse Lingard’s form has definitely played a major role in Benrahma’s exclusion in recent weeks but let’s face it, no one can have any complaints about that with the way the Manchester United loanee is playing.
Benrahma has shown signs of improvement, as McAvennie says. But he still has a long way to go if he wants to show he’s worthy of a starting spot every week.
