Former manager of West Ham forward raves over Hammers ace

West Ham United’s signing of forward Jarrod Bowen from Hull City in January had the feel of a watershed moment in the club’s struggle of a season.

You don’t want to put too much pressure on the young man’s shoulders straight off the bat, but he would appear to have everything to be a big success in east London.

The 23-year-old has a fantastic eye for goal, a wonderful work rate, and was extremely highly thought of at Hull.

The hope is that he will not only perform well himself, but have a rejuvenating effect on the likes of Manuel Lanzini and Sebastien Haller.

One of the managers who watched over Bowen at the KCOM Stadium was Nigel Adkins, who believes the Englishman will be a big success in the Premier League.

“Jarrod had a bit of an injury when I first came in,” he told The Athletic. “It was probably down to the accumulation of games in his first full season.

“He was still getting used to first-team football at the time. But, after that, he trained every day.

“A great attitude on him; out on the training ground and wanting to get better. And he was willing to listen.”

How good could Bowen be for West Ham?

Well, Adkins’ words are certainly very promising, aren’t they? He’s an experienced manager, so this sort of verdict from him is very exciting.

Bowen has been producing at Championship for quite some time now, and scored 17 goals in all competitions for Hull over the first half of the season.

What we’ve seen in recent years is that players who excel in the second tier usually do the same in the top flight.

James Maddison, Jack Grealish and Neal Maupay are just three examples of that. Bowen could very well be the latest.

In other West Ham news, the club are reportedly in a heated transfer battle for a Moroccan winger.
