‘Flying’ – Darren Bent heaps praise on senior West Ham men after ‘positive’ January reveal

Darren Bent has hailed West Ham co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold for getting a deal over the line to bring Jarrod Bowen to the club in January.

The 23-year-old winger arrived in east London from Hull City in the closing stages of the transfer window last month, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Hammers had to fend off interest from Crystal Palace to land their man.

And Bent believes that the club did a good job in bringing in the wide man.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “It was a positive that they nabbed him from Crystal Palace.

“Well done to the owners for pulling that off. He has to go straight into the team because he is a very good player.

“He was flying for Hull and what he injects into that team which they have been missing is pace. Hopefully, he can hit the ground running.”

Is Bowen a good signing for West Ham?

It certainly looks that way, doesn’t it?

Obviously, the winger does lack Premier League experience, but he has been head and shoulders above just about everybody in the Championship for quite some time now, and it would a surprise if he can’t translate that form into the top flight.

As well as 16 goals and seven assists this term, he was also averaging 3.6 shots, 1.8 successful dribbles, and 1.5 key passes per game, as per Whoscored.

Bearing that in mind, his average match rating of 7.35 is more than justified, and if he can bring that form to the top table, he will be an instant hit in east London.
