Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic likes West Ham United
Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic likes West Ham United, and Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has suggested that he would be open to a move.
The Hammers tabled £21.38million for the Serbian international last summer, but it was promptly knocked back [Di Marzio].
According to Di Marzio, they could return with a lower bid this summer and are hoping it would convince Fiorentina to part ways with Milenkovic.
A much-needed signing
Having allowed Fabian Balbuena to leave at the end of his contract, manager David Moyes is definitely looking to bring in an upgrade, and the Serbian giant is the perfect replacement.
Craig Dawson and Antonio Ogbonna are already on the wrong side of 30, while Issa Diop is struggling a lot with consistency.
We need to strengthen at the back with the added schedule of European football, and Milenkovic, 23, appears willing to move to West Ham.
The 6ft 5in defender can also play at right-back, and that is a welcome and added boost given Moyes’ preference to deploy a three-man centre-back defence at times.
With just a year left on his current deal [Transfer Markt], Fiorentina do not have much of a choice than to sell him this summer.
The Serie A side finished 13th in the league table last term, and the chance to move to a side offering European football would be tempting for Milenkovic.
Given his contract situation, a lot of clubs will definitely join the Hammers in the race for the signature of such a quality defender, and we have got a huge battle on our hands from the look of things.
