Fabrizio Romano shares latest update on West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice situation

Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Declan Rice is not serious about signing a new deal at West Ham.

The Hammers reportedly offered him a new deal recently, but it was turned down by the midfielder [The Guardian].

Rice has been outstanding this season for the club, and he is happy with the present contract that is not far from expiring at the London Stadium.

Romano suggests that West Ham are determined to keep him for at least one more season. It will be complicated for any potential club to sign him this summer.

“I’m told that the last proposal was a few weeks ago, and was turned down by Rice,” said Romano on Rio Ferdinand Presents Five podcast.

“At the moment, on the player’s side, he is not serious with West Ham to extend the contract. He is happy with the contract he has right now.

“West Ham have no intention to sell him this summer. Maybe it will happen next summer. It’s going to be complicated to get Rice because they will fight to keep him at the club.”

Unlikely

Rice is unlikely to leave the Hammers this summer.

Yes, he has not penned a new deal, and probably he is not do so in the near future as well.

However, the Hammers are pretty relaxed about his situation.

He has a contract at the club till 2024, with the club having an option to extend the deal for another year.

David Moyes is building something exciting at the club, and he will want Rice to be a part of it.

The England International has been superb this season, and he harbours desire to play in the Champions League.

It’s unlikely the Hammers will sell him this summer, unless any club come up with a ridiculous bid.

You may argue with West Ham’s valuation of the player, but the Hammers have every right to ask a hefty transfer fee for him.

He will become the club skipper next season. Given his contract situation, West Ham will point out to Jack Grealish’s transfer fee to evaluate Rice’s worth.
