Fabrizio Romano Memphis Depay update a boost for West Ham United
West Ham were keen on a January move for Barcelona striker Memphis Depay and the latest update on his contract situation should reignite the Hammers’ interest.
David Moyes held an interest in the former Manchester United man According to Elnacional on 4 January but a deal failed to materialise.
However, according to The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano [via his personal Twitter account] on Wednesday 29 June, Barcelona’s financial situation has left “all options open” for the 28-year-old, including “bids from other clubs”.
Depay has 12 goals and two assists in 28 LaLiga appearances for the Catalan side in the 2021/22 season.
Although the Dutch international could well be on the move this summer with the forward entering the final year of his contract at Barcelona.
The Catalan giants have had an array of financial issues over a number of seasons and are unlikely to be able to offer the forward a new deal.
A January move for Depay was likely to cost a reasonably large fee, however, Barcelona may be inclined to cash in on the forward this summer.

The Spanish club need to shift players off their wage bill in order to bring in new additions to the Nou Camp.
Depay seems an obvious choice to depart the club and Moyes should certainly keep a keen eye on his situation during the summer.
Moyes is already looking to add Depay’s fellow Dutch international Arnaut Danjuma to his squad, with The Guardian reporting on 26 June that the Irons have made an approach for the 25-year-old.
With Nayef Aguerd and Alphonse Areola arriving at the London Stadium, it is time for the West Ham boss to add some attacking talent to his squad.
