Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea defender Emerson completes West Ham medical
Chelsea defender Emerson has reportedly completed his West Ham medical and will now sign the contracts before a final announcement.
According to Sky Sports Italy journalist Fabrizio Romano, £13million plus £2million in add-ons will be paid by the Hammers to their London rivals.
David Moyes had been prioritising a move for a left-back and will be getting his wishes fulfilled with the Italy international now set to join.
Via Twitter, Romano wrote, “Emerson Palmieri has completed the medical tests with West Ham – and he’s gonna sign the contract in the next hours.
“Chelsea will receive £13m plus £2m add-ons. Official statement to follow once documents are signed.”
Good move
Emerson will now be the seventh player to walk through the door at the London Stadium this summer.
Moyes has been backed to the T by the club hierarchy this summer and it’s now time that he starts delivering results.
We believe another signing will follow after Emerson and it’s most likely to be a midfielder.
Hans Vanaken appears to most likely option as things stand and he will add much-needed experience and class to this Hammers midfield.
What that means for the future of Tomas Soucek is anyone’s guess but we’re hoping that Vanaken can prove to be an upgrade on the Czech international.
Apart from that, another wide player may not be on the priority list unless one of the first-team options leave which does not seem likely as things stand.
It’s been a window of big spending and Moyes does not have excuses for not finishing in the top half again, hopefully finishing in the European places.
