ExWHUemployee: West Ham United hope Manchester United soften £40m stance on Scott McTominay
West Ham United are not prepared to match Manchester United’s valuation of Scott McTominay and it is hoped that the Red Devils can lower their expectations, according to ExWHUemployee.
The reliable club source reports (27 July) that there remains a gap in valuation between the two clubs but the Hammers are hopeful Manchester United will lower their stance if they are able to complete a couple of purchases themselves.
The Guardian reported on 25 July that the Champions League outfit would only listen to offers close to £40m but the Hammers are clearly unwilling to match that figure for the £60,000-a-week [The Sun] United star.

Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast (27 July), Ex states: “The valuation of Scott McTominay seems to be significantly different between the clubs.
“We have been told that whilst West Ham would not be prepared to offer near the current fee it is hoped that Manchester United may lower their expectations if they are able to complete a couple of purchases themselves.”
Hope remains
It’s no secret that West Ham United are short of midfield quality right now following Rice’s sale and the uncertain future of Tomas Soucek, hence their reported interest in a number of targets.
With £100m-plus in the bank following Rice’s departure to Arsenal, the Hammers could easily be aiming to acquire more than one midfield signing and given Moyes’ admiration for the Scottish international, the hope remains that United will, of course, lower their £40m stance.

The Scottish international has certainly had his detractors at Old Trafford, but no one can fault his professionalism, midfield endeavour and aggression when the Red Devils need it most and it’s why they’ve placed such a lofty price tag on his head.
However, the Red Devils do need to sell players if they are to continue to spend this summer and that is the hope West Ham United have in their attempts to prize McTominay away from Old Trafford.
Whatever has been said about him in the past, McTominay is an established Premier League performer and a perfect component to begin the post-Rice era in East London – adding dynamism and cutting-edge in midfield that the Irons are currently crying out for.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes and Tim Steidten may already be stuck in a transfer rift.
