ExWHUemployee: West Ham expect to announce Nayef Aguerd signing soon

West Ham are reportedly on the cusp of sealing their first summer signing in Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd.

According to ExWHUemployee, the 26-year-old was in the United Kingdom this past week and also had photos taken in the kit.

The club are confident of this going through and could make an official announcement soon once everything is ironed out.

Ex wrote, “We have been told that the Moroccan Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd is very close to signing. The player was in the country this week to finalise terms and have photos taken with the kit. The club hope to make an announcement soon.

“Whilst anything can happen last minute, believe me I know I’ve been doing this for 12 years now, it is clear why we are being told by numerous sources that the club are very confident of completing the deal and hope to make an announcement soon.”

Get this done

It’s rare to see West Ham act quickly, especially when the window is yet to officially open.

The Hammers have prioritised a centre-back since last season and it looks like they’ve settled on the Moroccan.

The 26-year-old is a solid left-footed defender who is extremely adept at building out from the back.

He’s good aerially and can also offer David Moyes’ side a huge set piece threat.

We’re waiting to see how much of the deal is left because he’s done some of the formalities and he could do the rest in the due course.

Whether or not there is an agreement on the price also remains to be seen but there appears to be growing optimism that this one will get over the line.

Hopefully, we hear an official word from the club in the coming days and then they can move on to someone else.
