ExWHUemployee shares if West Ham close to appointing ex-Celtic scout Mick Doherty

West Ham are reportedly not close to the appointment of David Moyes ally Mick Doherty after he left SPFL champions Celtic.

According to ExWHUemployee, this comes under Rob Newman’s purview and not the Hammers manager’s and no move has been made for him thus far.

Ex was asked to clarify this pursuit after Sun journalist Alan Nixon wrote on 9 October that Moyes is keen on bringing Doherty to the London Stadium as a scout.

He said, “The key person in this is Rob Newman because this comes under scouting but at the moment there is no move for Mick Doherty and it’s not close at this point.”

Familiarity

We have seen Moyes bring in a number of his allies and it can be argued either way as to whether or not it’s the right move for the club.

On the one hand, they know exactly how he operates and the type of signings he wants while on the other, it leads to ideas stagnating and the lack of fresh inputs may lead to a manager’s downfall.

However, this is a recruitment decision so Moyes’ say in it will be limited as Newman is the expert in that area and he will be entrusted to bring in the right players.

It does not seem to be close as of now and we’ll wait and see how this one transpires in the coming weeks.

He’s unlikely to be one of the prominent scouting figures either so it should not affect the club’s plans of signing new players in January or the summer.

Newman must be credited for a successful summer window and we’re hoping that he carries on with the good work and gives Moyes quality players to work it in the West Ham first team.
