ExWHUemployee responds to West Ham ‘mutiny’ story, blasts Daily Mail

Claims that a “mutiny” has arisen at West Ham in the wake of the Kurt Zouma cat abuse incident are not true, says ExWHUemployee.

The Daily Mail had reported this morning that upon learning of the French defenders wages thanks to the amount of his two week fine, various first-team members were unhappy with their own pay.

The paper wrote: “There is said to be dissatisfaction among a clutch of players that Zouma earns significantly more than they do, with some ready to address the issue with the club.”

But the well known Hammers insider and co-owner of The West Ham Way has disputed the report online with a highly-unimpressed message for the Mail.

Writing on their personal Twitter account above the Daily Mail’s own Tweet promoting the story they said: “Not true, as I’m sure you already knew” along with a thumbs up emoji.

Confusing story

The club had reacted to criticism of David Moyes’ decision to play the centre-back in the game against Watford, despite the growing outrage at the footage of him kicking his pet cat.

The Hammers subsequently released a statement on their website saying they had fined the international defender “the maximum amount possible”, which was widely reported to be £250,000.

The story in the Mail appears to contradict itself when it says: “Sources insist that the former Chelsea star’s salary isn’t as much as that, yet his position as the club’s best paid player is now clear among the players.”

West Ham

If the quoted level of £125,000 is not true, or is at least disputed, then it seems difficult to say that it is “clear” he is the best paid player.

There is plenty of controversy arising from the Zouma footage, including on the differing responses to this episode and previous instances of racial abuse, as well as a perception that the Hammers and their player are receiving more criticism than others come in for.

But if Ex is right on this, it seems that at least one element of the fallout is not something for fans to worry about.
