ExWHUemployee: Harrison Ashby set to return to West Ham United action

Harrison Ashby is set to return to West Ham United action having recovered from a groin injury, according to ExWHUemployee.

Talking on his latest edition of the West Ham Way Podcast (1 November, 29:40) Ex revealed that Ashby would be travelling with David Moyes’ squad to Romania, for the Hammers’ Europa Conference League fixture against FCSB.

The 20-year-old has recently posted pictures online (personal Twitter account, 1 November) of himself back in training with the first team squad.

West Ham

Positive signs

It’s time for Ashby to really make an impact for the Hammers after a summer of speculation surrounding his future at the club. Leeds United and Newcastle United were interested in the young right back, who has yet to commit his long-term future to the Irons.

It has even been suggested by reliable Hammers website Six Foot Two (15 October) that Ashby was absent from Premier League 2 squads due to his current contract wrangling with the Irons. However, it appears those suggestions were inaccurate, with the youngster now right back in first-team contention.

With Vladimir Coufal not on top form at the moment and Thilo Kehrer being played out of position on the right side, there could well be an opportunity for Ashby if he can put his head down and focus on finding a way into Moyes’ plans.

The tie in Romania is the perfect chance for West Ham to rotate and get some minutes into the legs of players who have been on the periphery so far in the 2022/23 campaign.
