ExWHUemployee expects West Ham to sign a goalkeeper this summer
ExWHUemployee has given Hammers fans positive news as he expects West Ham United to sign a goalkeeper this summer.
The Hammers took a step towards sealing Europa League qualification with a 3-1 victory against West Brom on Wednesday.
Tottenham Hotspur losing to Aston Villa means that West Ham now only require one point from their last game to ensure that they finish in the top six in the Premier League for the first time since Harry Redknapp’s side did in the 1998/99 campaign.
Qualification for the Europa League will come with the added revenue that the Hammers will welcome and the fans will be hoping that the board gets their signings right this summer and challenge for a similar position next season.
One position they are expected to strengthen is the goalkeeper. Lukasz Fabianski has been impressive but the club are looking to sign another keeper to give him a fight for his first-team berth.
Johnstone seems the best bet
We reported on Wednesday that West Ham are favourites to sign Sam Johnstone ahead of Manchester United, and now with the West Ham insider confirming we’re looking to get in a keeper, he seems like our best bet.
The 28-year-old has enjoyed a very good season for West Brom despite the Baggies getting relegated.
He is eight years younger than Fabianski who is likely to have a couple of seasons before he’ll eventually need replacing.
Until then, Johnstone can play in the cups and be our number two and if he continues improving the way he’s done at The Hawthorns, he would make a very good shout to be our first choice.
He’s got the right makings of a modern-day goalkeeper and having competition in every position is important for teams ready to take the next level.
