Ex-FIFA official baffled by controversial incident in West Ham United loss v Nottingham Forest

Keith Hackett has blasted the decision to not award Nottingham Forest a penalty in the game against West Ham on Saturday (17 February).

The ex-FIFA official tweeted on Monday (19 February) that it was a “nailed on” penalty after Maxwel Cornet caught Neco Williams, but the officials decided it wasn’t a foul by the Ivory Coast international.

In a further tweet responding to Mark Clattenburg’s comments about why it should have been a spot-kick, he added that these are “big decisions” that you would expect “elite officials” to get right as Forest secured a 2-0 victory at the City Ground.

West Ham know how poor Premier League officiating is

If there is any club that knows just how poor the officiating is in the Premier League at this moment in time, then it’s West Ham.

They were absolutely robbed in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United, where Alphonse Areola conceded a late penalty for a supposed foul on Oli McBurnie and Jarrod Bowen saw a stonewall penalty turned down.

But the decision did go in their favour against Forest as it was almost certainly a foul on Williams as Cornet made contact with his foot.

While the 27-year-old winger didn’t mean to foul the Welsh international, it still should have been a penalty at a point when the game was still in the balance.

It didn’t end up having any impact on the result overall, though, as the Hammers put in yet another poor performance as we fell to defeat again.
