Everything David Moyes has said about West Ham including ‘dark days’ under Julen Lopetegui
West Ham are set to come up against David Moyes’ Everton on Monday.
Graham Potter’s job is on the line at West Ham, after a torrid run of just six wins since he joined the Hammers in January.
Moyes knows all about losing his job in East London, having had two spells at the London Stadium, which resulted in differing success.
Recently, David Sullivan has come under fire from West Ham fans for his decisions in the last 18 months, with Moyes providing plenty of memorable moments with the Irons.

David Moyes on the ‘dark days’ at West Ham
West Ham fans have grown frustrated with the hierarchy, having felt like they have gone backwards over the last 18 months.
After Moyes won the Europa Conference League, the Hammers were expected to move forward, but have instead sleepwalked into multiple relegation battles.
Despite being dismissed, Moyes still has good memories of his time in East London.
After leaving in 2024, he said: “It starts to hit you when you have to clear your office out and make way for new people coming in but I’m happy with the situation.
“I’ve been in and out of work at different times during my career but this time I’m happy to be stepping aside. I’m happy with the work I’ve done here at West Ham and I’ll leave in good spirits.
- Moyes guided the Hammers to a ninth-place finish in his final season with the Hammers
- He had a 44% win rate at West Ham
- In comparison, Graham Potter has a 28% win rate
“I think there are a lot of things for the Club to take forward and a lot of things we’ve made better here and I hope it continues, I really do.
“We’ve had some dark days here, but let’s be fair, we’re seeing a lot more of the light now than we are of the darkness.
“It was the right time for both parties. It’s never easy to leave a job where you feel like you’ve really enjoyed it, great group of players. I loved working with them, but I genuinely think it was the right time for us both.”
West Ham ‘went sideways’ under Julen Lopetegui – David Moyes
Moyes was replaced by Julen Lopetegui at West Ham, with the Spaniard expected to bring an exciting brand of football.
However, things didn’t work out, and he departed after six months, with five defeats with three or more goals conceded.
Moyes was left unimpressed with his successor when he was speaking about his former club in May, with Joe Cole sharing a conversation he had with the Scotsman.
Cole said: “Yeah, everyone loves West Ham, but he was telling me it’s remarkable what he’d done at the club, the semi-final, the Conference League final.
“And in the club, that’s one of them, they got rid of him, and everyone was expecting, right, just going to change this brand of football. And it just, Lopetegui, it went a bit sideways.”
