Every word from raging Alan Shearer rant about West Ham vs Wolves on Match of the Day – ‘Useless’
Alan Shearer didn’t hold back in his scathing assessment of West Ham’s dreadful performance in the 3-0 loss to Wolves on Saturday.
West Ham’s embarrassing loss to Wolves was a huge missed opportunity to close the gap on 17th-placed Nottingham Forest.
They remain four points adrift of safety, and the pressure is mounting on Nuno Espirito Santo after their worst result of the season.
West Ham are now nailed on to be relegated, with Shearer and Jermain Defoe brutal in their analysis of the damaging defeat.

Alan Shearer couldn’t believe how bad West Ham played vs Wolves
Jhon Arias opened the scoring from close range, before Hwang Hee-Chan converted from the penalty spot after Soungoutou Magassa fouled Mateus Mane.
Mane then scored his first senior goal with a low drive at Alphonse Areola’s near post to put the hosts 3-0 up before half-time.
Speaking on Match of the Day on 3 January, Shearer couldn’t contain his anger when speaking about how the Hammers started the match.
He said: “West Ham were weak, woeful, pathetic, useless. I don’t recall a team performing so poorly in the first half.
| Wolves | Stat | West Ham |
| 33 | Possession | 67 |
| 78% | Pass accuracy | 88% |
| 11 | Shots | 6 |
| 1.87 | Expected goals | 0.25 |
| 54 | Duels won | 58 |
“They couldn’t handle what Wolves were chucking at them. We lost count of how many times Magassa or [Freddie] Potts lost out in the ball in midfield.”
The Hammers simply didn’t offer enough threat against a side who haven’t won all season, registering just one shot in the first half.
Callum Wilson had just 21 touches of the ball, while Crysencio Summerville and Jarrod Bowen once again remained anonymous for the majority of the match.
The defending was disgraceful at times, and Konstantinos Mavropanos was singled out for his role in the third goal.

With the Hammers already in a perilous position, Mane drove at Mavropanos before unleashing a fierce shot that went through his legs and flew past Areola.
Shearer added: “I don’t know how you can look at it without swearing. Have a look at Mavropanos. Is that the best you can do in closing down a shot when your team is in danger of being relegated?
“You have to do better, and that’s why Nuno was so angry after the match.”
Defoe said: “When you see the Mane goal, it’s worrying to see players not engaging when a shot has been taken from outside the box.
Mavropanos has already been criticised this season, and with Max Kilman continuing to disappoint at the heart of the defence, it’s clear where West Ham‘s priority should lie in the summer transfer window.
Nuno’s side must regroup ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Nottingham Forest at the London Stadium, and a loss against Sean Dyche’s men could spell the end of his reign in E20.
