Erik ten Hag sack claim emerges at Manchester United ahead of West Ham clash

Jason Cundy has suggested defeats against West Ham United and Chelsea could spell the end for Erik Ten Hag’s tenure at Manchester United.

Man United face the Hammers on Sunday (27 October) with both managers potentially in the spotlight given their poor starts to the season.

However, Cundy believes Ten Hag is the one with the most pressure on him and defeat this weekend could spell the beginning of the end for him.

Speaking on talkSPORT [24 October], he said: “They’ve got West Ham and then Chelsea. If he loses away at West Ham and then Chelsea rock up and pull his pants down, he could be out.”

Julen Lopetegui is under pressure at West Ham

While a lot of the focus may be on Ten Hag’s potential sacking, Lopetegui is certainly under a lot of pressure to keep his job as well.

The Hammers sit miserably down in 15th, although a win at the weekend could actually take them above Manchester United in 12th. Depending on other results, they could move as high as 10th.

When Lopetegui was appointed, it was met with excitement from some parts about what he could do at the club. However, any effect he has had thus far appears to have been negative.

The club’s recent hammering at the hands of Tottenham was one of four Premier League defeats the Hammers have fallen victim to so far this season.

There is still plenty of time left for Lopetegui to turn his and the club’s fortunes around and send his side up the table.

For that to happen, performances will have to improve drastically and a home encounter against struggling Manchester United provides a chance to build on that.
