English media blown away by ‘lively’ Jarrod Bowen scenes in win vs Albania

West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen was one of the stars of the show as England beat Albania 2-0 on Sunday.

Bowen was an unused substitute as Thomas Tuchel’s side beat Serbia on 13 November, but he started against the Red and Blacks.

West Ham ace Bowen is hoping to earn a place in the World Cup squad, and his chances have surely increased after the victory on 16 November.

The 28-year-old did not get on the scoresheet, but he was a constant presence on the right-flank, and will have surely impressed Tuchel.

Jarrod Bowen amazes in England win

Many observers felt that Bowen was the Three Lions’ best player before Harry Kane eventually scored a double to down Albania.

Metro handed him a seven out of 10, saying: “England’s biggest threat in the first half and was unlucky not to score. Dipped a bit in the second half. Taken off in the 75th minute.”

Bowen was a seven out of 10 by Daily Express, who said: “Was lively from the outset and whipped three early crosses into the box. Got stuck in with a crunching tackle in the first half as well. Forced a decent save from the keeper just before the break. Started on the right but was shifted to the left when Bukayo Saka came on.”

The Standard also gave him a seven out of 10 rating, saying: “Was England’s best player on the night until Kane popped up with his two late goals. Never stopped running and didn’t shirk defensive duties.”

The Telegraph handed Bowen a six out of 10, saying: “Had a shot saved in the first half after Kane and Bellingham sent him through. Some good footwork on the right flank but end product needed to be better.”

They also rated his World Cup chances, claiming that he will be a squad player for Tuchel at the World Cup.

Bowen should be more than a squad player for England after West Ham exploits

Bowen should be more than a squad player, but unfortunately, the prediction is probably accurate.

Bukayo Saka is the favoured option on the right-flank, which is probably the right call from Tuchel, given the Arsenal man’s numbers over the last few seasons.

Bowen notched 22 goals and 15 assists in 68 appearances in the last two seasons, with the Gunners star notching 22 goals and 19 assists in 60 appearances in the last two campaigns.

It was just based on this season though, both players have the same numbers, with three goals each in nine and 11 Premier League matches respectively, with the Hammers ace edging it with one assist to his name too.

It will be a close call for the Three Lions boss, and it would not be a radical call if Bowen was given the nod when the tournament comes around, but he faces a tough task to prove himself to Tuchel.
