Edson Alvarez miracle update after West Ham United injury news drops

Sean Whetstone has hit back at Fabrizio Romano after claims that Edson Alvarez could be available for West Ham against Crystal Palace on Saturday (24 August).

The Italian transfer specialist reported via his personal X account [20 August] that the Mexican could be ready to face the Eagles if all goes to plan, having been sidelined since June.

Whetstone has now called out that report, suggesting that his involvement at Selhurst Park would be a “miracle” as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Writing via his West Ham Football X account on Tuesday (20 August), he said: Considering he isn’t training with the squad yet, this would be a miracle.”

West Ham United continue to wait on Edson Alvarez recovery

Despite all of Julen Lopetegui’s additions to the squad at the London Stadium, few players have the same impact as Alvarez brings to the starting XI.

Guido Rodriguez was handed his debut during the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday 17 August, experiencing a mixed performance, attempting to play the Mexican’s role in the team.

Fans will be extremely disappointed with this update following Romano’s brilliant news surrounding the 26-year-old, but it makes sense that the midfielder is not quite ready for action yet.

He has been unavailable since sustaining a hamstring injury during Mexico’s Copa America clash against Jamaica, playing just 30 minutes before being substituted.

While the Hammers will be desperate for Alvarez to return, it is more important to make sure his injury will not reoccur once thrown back into the starting lineup, so it could be a lot longer until West Ham have their favoured midfielder back.

Further injury would come as a devastating blow to the Irons, something that plagued David Moyes’ last campaign in charge, especially with Lucas Paqueta and Michail Antonio sidelined for large parts of the season.

In other West Ham news, Ally McCoist hesitated over his new verdict on the Hammers after the defeat to Aston Villa.
