Edson Alvarez makes Rodriguez admission amid West Ham exit news

Edson Alvarez was full of praise for Guido Rodriguez when quizzed on their connection at West Ham.

West Ham will not look back at the current season with any level of fondness, given the fact that they have nothing left to play for ahead of the final five games.

Julen Lopetegui started the regression, and Graham Potter has done very little to slow it down, with concerns already emerging over his future at the London Stadium.

Throughout that period, Alvarez has been a regular for West Ham, whereas Rodriguez has rarely been afforded the chance to shine since the start of the year.

Rodriguez’s relationship with Alvarez could be cut short this summer

It has been a frustrating season for Rodriguez, and talks have already been mooted for a West Ham exit ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Argentine simply hasn’t been in the plans of Potter, who has shown a stubbornness in his team selection and way of playing, though Alvarez was still keen to point out the hard work put in by his teammate when quizzed via the West Ham site.

Alvarez and Rodriguez have both spent time on the bench for West Ham this season.

Alvarez said: “It’s very special [being reunited at West Ham]. Especially because we played together at América, and now life and destiny have put us in a Premier League team together.

“It’s great – he’s a great person, we enjoy every day, and we work very hard.”

Given the lack of game time afforded to Rodriguez, it seems highly unlikely that the pair will remain together with the Irons beyond the current campaign.

West Ham have been dire this season

Based on the performances this season, you’d find it very hard to believe that it was largely the same side that won a European trophy only a few seasons back.

However, the regression since has been astounding, and much of that has come down to the lack of quality brought into the London Stadium.

Recruitment will be crucial for West Ham’s hopes of putting this season behind them, and they will be afforded no margin for error once the transfer window arrives.

With five games still to be played, the Irons need to start showing improvements in their performances, not only for the future of Potter, but also their own.
