Edson Alvarez injury return date for West Ham shared after ‘very bad’ setback

Edson Alvarez is expected to return to action for West Ham United in just under a month’s time, according to Sean Whetstone.

The Hammers-centric writer reported via his West Ham Football account [18 August] that Alvarez is due to be back for the trip to Fulham on 14 September.

Whetstone quotes a club source as saying that the Mexican is on course to return for that match all going to plan after suffering a “very bad” tear.

Alvarez sustained the injury during the summer and was not part of the matchday squad for the 2-1 loss to Aston Villa.

West Ham United could do with Edson Alvarez

The Hammers’ defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday (17 August) was a tough one to take given the nature of the visitors’ victory.

Not only did they score their winner fairly late on at the London Stadium, it came via former United target Jhon Duran.

Many United fans accept, though, that the team was not good enough on the day and a defeat was not exactly surprising.

Central midfield in particular was a problem, with Guido Rodriguez not having the best of debuts, even if he did have the odd bright moment.

Julen Lopetegui would love to have Alvarez in the engine room, but he will have to make do without him for a while longer yet.

The Irons have three more games to come before that trip to Craven Cottage – two in the Premier League, one in the Carabao Cup – so Lopetegui will have to find a formula that works in the meantime.

Let’s just hope Alvarez does not endure any setbacks in his recovery so that he can slot in seamlessly.
