Edson Alvarez injury news emerges ahead of West Ham United v Crystal Palace
Edson Alvarez is expected to return from injury as West Ham face Crystal Palace on Saturday 24 August, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian transfer specialist reported via his personal X account [20 August] that the midfielder will be part of Julen Lopetegui’s squad for the visit to Selhurst Park if all goes to plan.
Alvarez has not played for the Hammers since their final day of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City, after suffering an injury on international duty this summer.
The Mexican midfielder was expected to return in a month, according to Sean Whetstone, fit in time to face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday 14 September.
West Ham United handed Edson Alvarez injury boost v Crystal Palace
Julen Lopetegui will be thrilled with Alvarez’s injury boost, certainly if he will be ready to face Oliver Glasner’s Eagles next weekend.
While Guido Rodriguez has been added to the squad, the Argentine experienced a mixed debut during the Hammers’ 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, though he did complete 85 minutes in the middle of the park.
No player is quite capable of bringing the same talents and abilities to the squad as the Mexican, however, and the club were fearing for the worst when he sustained an injury v Jamaica in June.
If he returns after missing just one Premier League game, this could possibly be the best-case scenario for the Irons, but he is unlikely to be sharp enough to start against Palace.
While there are still 10 days of the transfer window left, and the midfielder has received interest throughout the summer, West Ham will be focusing on the brilliant news of his potential return to the squad.
In other West Ham news, Ally McCoist hesitated over his new verdict on the Hammers after the defeat to Aston Villa.
