‘Done so well’ – Moyes names 3 West Ham players who have improved under him

West Ham manager David Moyes has picked three players who have improved the most over the past twelve months as the Hammers soar up the table.

The Hammers are sat fifth in the Premier League table having won five of their six games in the top flight in 2021.

Wednesday’s win at Villa Park was the perfect way to bounce back from losing at home to Liverpool.

It’s the sort of character not known at West Ham previously. David Moyes, while speaking to Football.London, has named three players in particular who’ve stepped it up.

He said: “It is a brilliant turnaround for a year I can’t hide that. I just think the players have done so well.

“The improvement in Micky Antonio, Aaron Cresswell, and Angelo Ogbonna in that period those players were at the club.

“I’m not talking about the ones we have brought in, I am talking about the ones who were here.

“They have really upped the level with their professionalism lately.”

The new West Ham

Moyes was quoted post-match a few weeks back saying he felt this was a new version of West Ham to that of previous years.

Formerly, the Hammers would lose games deemed more winnable and would always show up for the clashes with teams ranked higher in the league.

Recent fixtures against Burnley and West Brom would have previously posed as banana peels, but the Hammers won both games with ease.

Antonio scored the winners in both games. Since Moyes returned, he’s used Antonio as a striker rather than a winger as he did in his previous reign. The Englishman has scored 15 league goals in the last year.

His form has been so impressive that Moyes sold record signing, Sebastian Haller, for half what we paid. He’s given Antonio the full burden and the striker is relishing the challenge.

Cresswell has also had a fantastic twelve months. This season in particular, the left-back has provided six assists in the league, the joint-top for defenders. He looks like a changed man under Moyes and its fantastic to see.

Ogbonna has been excellent since joining from Serie A giants Juventus in the summer of 2015. His form has been so good that he’s back in the Italian national team set up ahead of the European Championships.

West Ham will look to move past 40 points with a win against Fulham on Saturday, as we travel Craven Cottage.
