Dharmesh Sheth: West Ham United confident of signing Alphonse Areola

West Ham are getting increasingly confident about signing Alphonse Areola from Paris Saint-Germain, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist said on The West Ham Way podcast on June 21 that the Hammers are confident that they can get his deal done.

He adds that there is a feeling that Areola wants to join West Ham and fight with Lukasz Fabianski for the first-choice position at the club.

Sheth said: “The noise I’m hearing today is about Areola. Increased confidence that they can get that one done. And a feeling that he wants to fight for the first-team place next season.”

Get it done

After securing the signing of Nayef Aguerd, it seems the Hammers are wasting no time in getting to land the PSG goalkeeper.

Areola joined the Hammers last season on loan, where he made a strong impression. He was mostly used in cup games, where he did impress in the Europa League.

Fabianski kept the goal in the Premier League but the chances are high Areola will challenge him for the first spot if the Hammers can sign him permanently.

Newcastle United were also in the race for his signature, but the Magpies have now turned their attention towards Nick Pope [The Daily Mail].

West Ham can now work on a deal to sign the goalkeeper, although meeting his personal terms is a tough ask.

The fact that the player himself wants to join the club and fight for places should encourage the Hammers to wrap up the deal as quickly as possible.
