Declan Rice makes cheeky dig at Lyon after West Ham Europa League win

Declan Rice couldn’t resist taking a swipe at Lyon after West Ham secured a 3-0 victory in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final.

Taking to Twitter, the 23-year-old shared a tweet from the French club’s English account playing up their chances of progression from the tie, mocking the claim after the Irons managed to progress with relative ease.

Rice captained the side and netted the second goal in a superb display that set up West Ham’s first European semi-final in 46 years.

Sweet Success

Declan Rice, like any hammer in the universe, is undoubtedly thrilled with the win over Lyon which sees the club carry on this remarkable European journey.

He himself has played a big part in that and it must be satisfying on a personal level to keep shutting up the doubters and keep proving both himself as an individual and his team as a whole at the highest level.

They’ve certainly done that this season, still firmly in the hunt for European qualification in the league yet now might be dreaming of a Europa League win which would also see them qualify for the Champions League for next season.

You’d have been called crazy for suggesting such a thing a couple of years ago but such has been the upwards trajectory under David Moyes you now wouldn’t bet against it happening.

And with a semi-final against Frankfurt to come after the Germans shocked Barcelona, the Irons must surely be looking with determination of booking themselves a place in Seville for the final.

In other West Ham news, this pundit couldn’t believe what he saw from this Hammers ace against Lyon.
