Declan Rice is keen on joining Manchester United from West Ham
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to do a deal for West Ham United ace Declan Rice in this window, according to The Independent.
The Norwegian sees signing the England international midfielder as necessary to make the leap to serious title challengers, and the 22-year-old is keen on the move as it serves as the next step in his career.
However, it seems highly unlikely for the Red Devils to land Rice unless “significant” sales can be made at Old Trafford in time. Donny van de Beek, Phil Jones and Diogo Dalot are reportedly up for sale.
Man Utd reckon they may have to wait a year for the West Ham man and are set to return for a more favourable deal next summer.
Possible?
Solskjaer sees Rice as the final missing piece in his team having already strengthened at the back and in attack.
However, the Hammers want at least £100million for their academy graduate [Telegraph], and that has made any move impossible right now.
Man Utd want to sell Donny van de Beek, Phil Jones and Diogo Dalot, but finding buyers has been a struggle [The Independent].
Should significant sales be made in the coming days, it appears Solskjaer would not hesitate to make a firm move for Rice.
With three years still left on his West Ham deal, the Englishman knows he has been priced out of a move this summer.
However, things could be very interesting next summer for a variety of reasons, and nothing can be predicted with a full season and World Cup still to play before the next campaign starts.
Rice leaving the London Stadium in the coming days looks very much off the cards, but nothing can be ruled out as far as transfer goes, and things could get interesting before the end of the transfer window.
