Declan Rice drops West Ham future hint after awards ceremony

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has hinted at staying at the club beyond this season despite attracting interest from a number of big clubs in England.

The star midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from the London Stadium in the upcoming transfer window.

Speaking at the Irons award ceremony after receiving the club’s Hammer of the Year award on Monday night, Rice stated that he would be ‘ready to go again’ after a successful year.

“We’ve proved that we can play in big European games and our fans and our stadium have shown we can handle those big European nights, and that’s what we want more of,” he said as quoted by Evening Standard.

“I’m proud of the lads because we’re not the biggest of squads, so to go week in, week out again and again and again, training and playing Thursdays and Sundays, away from home and away from families has been tough, but in the end, we’ve had a great year and we’re ready to go again.”

Great news

Those quotes will be a sigh of relief for West Ham-faithful, considering how Rice has rejected numerous contract renewal offers from the club in the recent past.

As things stand, the 23-year-old has two years left on his current contract and the London-based club have an option to extend his stay for another 12 months.

With club captain and veteran defender Mark Nobel retiring at the end of the current campaign, West Ham fans will be hoping to see their star midfielder staying for years to come.

Rice is the Hammers’ academy product and was promoted to the club’s senior team in the summer of 2017.

Soon after that, the London-born midfielder became a permanent member of the side and has represented his current club in 193 matches across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing a solitary assist.

In the ongoing campaign, Rice has been influential in the centre of the park and has only missed one league fixture which was against Watford on December 18.
