Dean Ashton predicts what’s next for David Moyes after West Ham United loss v Arsenal

Dean Ashton says it “wouldn’t surprise” him to see West Ham respond to their defeat against Arsenal with victory against Nottingham Forest.

The Irons were on the end of a crushing 6-0 Premier League loss against Arsenal at London Stadium on Sunday (11 February).

That has led to questions regarding the future of manager David Moyes, with a big game against Forest next up on Saturday (17 February).

Asked if he expects to see a response from his old side, Ashton told talkSPORT [12 February, 08:21]: “Yeah, and there was to the Fulham defeat.

“They’re capable of that West Ham, putting something like this behind them. They’re still in a very good position in the league.

“If you’d said they’d be on the same number of points as Newcastle at this stage you’d say that’s a sign of a good season.

“They’ve also beaten Arsenal twice; it’s just this one looked and felt terrible.

“West Ham fans are pretty passionate and aren’t afraid to show you how they feel.

“But Moyes, with all that experience, it wouldn’t surprise me if they now go and beat Forest.”

West Ham torn apart by Arsenal

West Ham’s defeat was their joint-heaviest ever at home in league competition, while only once before – against Blackburn Rovers in 1963 – have they lost by six goals in a top-flight match.

The defeat was not exactly a one-off, though, as the Hammers have also been on the end of a 5-0 loss at Fulham and a 5-1 loss at Liverpool over the past two months.

David Moyes has largely has a successful second spell in charge of West Ham United but things have taken a turn for the worse now.

When the Irons are off it, they are well and truly off it. The most worrying aspect of the Arsenal defeat is that the scoreline genuinely flattered the hosts.

West Ham followed up the Fulham and Liverpool setbacks with two successive victories on both occasions, however, and that is now the aim ahead of games with Forest and Brentford.

Should that be the case, the outlook for Moyes and United will look a lot better. Should that Forest game end in another defeat, though, yet more questions will be asked of under-fire Moyes.
