David Sullivan told he has ‘got to sell’ West Ham United as new top four verdict emerges

Ray Parlour has told David Sullivan he has “got to sell” West Ham United, suggesting they could finish in the top four with a new owner.

The Hammers have had a poor start to the Premier League season and currently sit 14th in the table having won just one of their opening five league matches under Julen Lopetegui.

While the manager has come in for criticism due to the Irons’ poor form, talkSPORT pundit Parlour has suggested it will take a new owner for West Ham to finally realise their potential on the pitch.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (27 September, 7:57) he said: “West Ham is a big club, they’ve got massive support, I think it’s a sleeping giant. I think they’ve got to sell the club myself.

“I would say, David Sullivan, David Gold was a big influence in that and obviously he’s passed away, I think if they sold the club to a big-time player who’s going to invest in it, I think they could be a big, big club

“Top four all day long. You’ve got to get the right people in place, recruitment is very important. But I think if they sold the club, I think it could go really from strength to strength, I promise you now.

“They’ve got the support, a lot of clubs do travel but if you’ve got a 10,000 away allocation for fans, there will be 10,000 West Ham fans go.”

Who owns West Ham United and the London Stadium?

As Parlour suggests, the Hammers do have a stadium and a following that wouldn’t look out of place in the Champions League. But new ownership wouldn’t guarantee that the Irons were able to break into the top four.

Supporters only have to look across London at Chelsea to see that new big-money owners don’t guarantee success. In some instances, that sort of change at the top of a football club can even take a team backwards.

Alongside West Ham, there are likely plenty of clubs who feel as though they are equipped to break into the Champions League places if they had just a bit more investment, the difficult bit is finding that sort of buyer.

Sullivan may not have always been the most popular figure in East London, but he has spent heavily in the past to put the club in the best position. Hammers fans shouldn’t be too desperate to see their current owner walk away.
