David Sullivan exit shout made after crushing West Ham United news

West Ham are hoping to improve on last season’s disappointing Premier League campaign, although it’s widely agreed that a busy transfer window will be needed to make that happen.

Graham Potter replaced Julen Lopetegui as manager in January, and led The Hammers away from any potential danger to finish in 14th.

Now it’s hoped that his trademark eye for a bargain transfer will lead to improved performances this season.

However, it has been a slow start to the transfer window in East London, and Mohammed Kudus looks destined to be sold to Tottenham in a crushing blow.

This has led several fans and former players to air their grievances with the club.

Cottee slams David Sullivan following Kudus transfer news

Former West Ham striker Tony Cottee is the latest big name to share his worries about the club.

In a post on X (9 July), he lamented the fact that West Ham were selling Kudus to Spurs and begged the board to spend all the money received on new players.

He said: “Disappointing to see that Kudus has gone to Spurs but pls give ALL of the money to allow the Manager to buy some players! Anything other than that will see us in serious relegation trouble!”

Cottee went on to share his doubts about the situation improving at West Ham while David Sullivan remained the owner.

“I’ve said it before, nothing will ever change until there is new ownership at our Club,” he said.

Cottee is not the only one to share such grim predictions for the upcoming season. Premier League commentator Ian Darke also believes that West Ham could be in relegation trouble if they don’t buy well this summer.

Potter needs to invest in flair players

Potter has signed Jean-Clair Tobido permanently after he impressed during a loan spell. He is close to finalising deals for other defenders.

However, many Hammers fans will be begging for him to add some spice to his team’s attack.

West Ham scored 46 goals in 38 Premier League games. Now, they’re arguably losing their biggest source of flair in Kudus.

Yes, Jarred Bowen is still at the club and will remain a reliable talisman, but there will be few others that the Hammers can expect to offer a consistent goal threat against the league’s toughest defences.

West Ham’s strikers haven’t set the world alight. Niclas Fullkrug, the club’s big summer signing in 2024, scored three goals. Danny Ings and Evan Ferguson got one each.

A proven centre-forward should be a priority for Potter, while a playmaker to replace Kudus will also be essential. Otherwise, there is every chance that the Hammers will slip backwards this season.
