David Ornstein: West Ham offered chance to sign Ajax ace Nicolas Tagliafico

Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico has been offered to West Ham United by agents, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

However, the Hammers are not interested in signing the Argentina international, 28, refusing to take it any further ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

De Telegraaf reported on their website on Monday afternoon that both clubs had reached a verbal agreement over a deal, with personal terms the only hurdle left to be scaled.

However, it appears that is not the case, with the reliable Ornstein posting on his personal Twitter account on Monday evening.

He said: “West Ham are not pursuing move Nicolas Tagliafico before tomorrow night’s transfer deadline.

“28-year-old Ajax and Argentina international left-back has been offered up by multiple agents but West Ham United aren’t currently looking to take it any further.”

Non-starter

West Ham have signed French centre-back Kurt Zouma from Chelsea, with a deal for CSKA Moscow attacking midfielder Nikola Vlasic also expected to be wrapped up in the coming hours [ExWHUemployee].

The Hammers do not appear to have any more transfer funds left this summer, and that has made any move for Tagliafico off the cards.

The Argentine won the Copa America with his country earlier in the summer and has two Eredivisie titles to his name, and there is no doubt that manager David Moyes could do with another quality left-back this season.

However, a move for the Ajax star will not be happening, but additional temporary signings cannot be ruled out in the coming hours.

The Irons will most likely settle for the duo of Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku for the campaign, and Moyes will hope the injury-prone latter can put his fitness woes behind him this season and provide the Englishman with more than enough competition at left-back.
