David Ornstein shares David Moyes contract update at West Ham United amid Julen Lopetegui speculation

West Ham United may have withdrawn their contract offer to David Moyes and it is unlikely he’ll decide his future, according to David Ornstein.

It is becoming increasingly likely the Scotsman will leave the London Stadium at the end of the season and the expiry of his contract, with Julen Lopetegui the current frontrunner to take over the reins next term.

While nothing has yet been announced by the Hammers officially, Atheltic journalist Ornstein believes that the decision may now have been taken out of Moyes’ hands given the Irons’ recent poor form.

Speaking to NBC Sports Soccer (5 May) he said: “He did say in late February that he had been offered a contract and it would be his decision over whether that would be signed and he would take that decision at the end of the season.

“In the time that has passed, I’m not sure that contract offer is still there and I’m not sure that it will be his decision any longer. It will probably be in the hands of West Ham.”

Will West Ham United sack David Moyes amid Julen Lopetegui speculation?

There will always be pundits and journalists who suggest that Moyes deserves more credit for his work at the London Stadium, but Sunday’s (5 May) 5-0 hammering at the hands of Chelsea showed his time is up in East London.

The Hammers were pulled from pillar to post by Mauricio Pochettinho’s side and the scoreline did them no favours. These players are finished under the Scotsman and it would be best for all parties if a change was made now.

Lopetegui won’t be every fan’s number-one choice, but a fresh face in the dugout is exactly what the players need. This entire process has been handled terribly and slightly disrespectfully, the right decision has been made.

Hopefully, some clarity will emerge in the form of an announcement before the end of the season, especially now that it appears the call has been taken out of the Scotsman’s hands.
