David Moyes’ top five West Ham moments ranked including Declan Rice and special night in Prague
David Moyes will be readying his Everton side for their game against West Ham on Monday.
Moyes has fond memories at West Ham, having had two spells in East London and guided the Hammers to their first major trophy in 43 years when they won the Europa Conference League in 2023.
Recent managers haven’t been able to replicate the Scottish manager’s success, with Graham Potter now facing the sack at West Ham, with the Irons at risk of a relegation battle.
With Moyes set to play his former club, and plenty of emotion expected, West Ham Zone looks back at his top five moments in East London.

5. Keeping West Ham up in 2019/20
When Moyes returned to West Ham in 2019, the Hammers were in a similar turmoil to what they are in now.
Unrest was growing with former manager Slaven Bilic prior to his dismissal, and fans were growing agitated with David Sullivan.
The appointment of Moyes didn’t inspire supporters, but they showed plenty of gratitude when he guided the Hammers from the relegation zone to safety with two games to spare.

4. Declan Rice’s emergence as captain
Before Moyes joined the Hammers, it had been years since one of their academy graduates had become a regular first-team player.
However, the 62-year-old put his faith in Declan Rice, and the youngest became a Premier League regular before becoming captain.
Rice later earned himself a £100million move to Arsenal, in what was a huge coup for both the player and the Hammers.
3. 6th Place Finish in the Premier League (2020/21)
West Ham had been used to competing at the bottom end of the table before Moyes put a spring in their step on his return to East London.
During the 2020/21 Premier League campaign, the Hammers looked unstoppable at times and had huge wins against London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham.
The Irons ended up finishing sixth that season, their highest league finish since 1998/99, when they finished 5th under Harry Redknapp.
They secured Europa League group stage qualification for the first time in the club’s history.
2. Europa League semi-final run (2021/22)
Under Moyes, West Ham reached the Europa League semi-finals in 2021/22, their best European run in over 50 years.
The Hammers finished second in group H behind Dinamo Zagreb before knocking out Sevilla and Lyon to reach the last four.
The semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt ended in a 2–1 aggregate defeat, but reaching that stage of the competition boosted West Ham’s European profile.
Their progress also gave fans unforgettable nights at the London Stadium and led to a 2022/23 campaign that lives long in the memories of Hammers fans.
1. West Ham’s Europa Conference League win
Just five players remain from West Ham’s Europa Conference League-winning squad, which made history.
They defeated Fiorentina 2–1 in the final in Prague, with memorable strikes from Jarrod Bowen and Saïd Benrahma.
The victory secured European football for a third consecutive season and cemented Moyes’ legacy at the club.
West Ham fans would likely give anything to return to the glory days under the Scottish manager.
