David Moyes must keep tabs on Lucas Paqueta for Brazil at World Cup to help improve West Ham United

David Moyes should monitor the performances and positioning of Lucas Paqueta for Brazil at the World Cup to help improve his performances for West Ham United, according to Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old has impressed for Tite’s side so far in Qatar and has been deployed in a deeper role alongside Casemiro compared to the attacking freedom he is given at club level.

Brazil faces South Korea in the last 16 on Monday (5 December), and Paqueta is expected to start the match after being rested for his nation’s last group game against Cameroon.

Given his undoubted talent, it has come as a surprise to fans that Paqueta has struggled to adjust to Premier League life following his £51million move in the summer.

According to journalist Jones, The Hammers manager should be keeping a watchful eye on his positioning at the World Cup as he still looks to get the Brazilian maestro fully firing in east London.

He told Give Me Sport: “Now I do think this has been a problem for Moyes, working out how to fit players like Paqueta and Scamacca into the system.

“So, he should be keeping an eye on Brazil right now to see how they use him and whether that can be replicated for West Ham.”

Offers flexibility

Moyes should 100% take note of Paqueta’s performances so far this World Cup, as the Brazilian has looked like a transformed player so far in Qatar.

The creative midfielder seems to be enjoying his football under Tite and has been given a crucial role in the starting XI as his country try to find the correct balance in midfield.

When Neymar is fully fit, Paqueta almost plays as a box-to-box midfielder – offering cover for Casemiro when attacking whilst also displaying his incredible passing range from a slightly deeper position than at club level.

Moyes will surely be looking to make a tweak to the summer signings role in his side as he still searches for the correct formula to gel him and Gianluca Scamacca together.

With Brazil expected to go far in the tournament, Moyes can, and should, be keeping a close eye on his star’s performances for his country.
