Moyes still stunned by West Ham’s opening day defeat v Newcastle
West Ham United boss David Moyes has admitted he was “stunned” by the Premier League season-opening defeat against Newcastle.
Moyes was speaking after the 1-1 draw against Manchester City and claimed recent results are more what he expects from his Irons squad.
The Hammers have turned it around in the Premier League, with 10 points from a possible 12 against sides including City, Tottenham, Wolves and Leicester.
Moyes claimed it was a “one-off” and that his side has proved their worth ever since that disappointing defeat at the London Stadium.
“After our Newcastle performance I was absolutely stunned, I hadn’t seen that coming in pre-season,” he said, as quoted by the Independent. “I’d seen what I’m seeing now.
“I’d like to put that down as a one-off. Now is more what we expect to play like – two wins and two draws against teams who are hard to take points against.
“We played better against Spurs than City but we were hard to beat, and hard to score against, which against City and what they are capable of is good for us.”
It was the worst possible way to start this season in the Premier League.
At the time, it was probably made much worst by looking at the fixtures that were to follow that, and the expectation of picking up very-few points.
Moyes and his Irons squad have been near-perfect since though, and everyone involved with the club will be delighted at their recent form.
